Book One: Orientation
After Megan Amano witnesses a suicidal young man walk into the ocean off Santa Monica Beach and vanish, she dreams of him nightly. His name is Adrien, and in her dreams Megan journeys to his home: Merridiah University od Spiritual Education, the human afterlife's premier educational institute for muses. There Megan is to study as a living exchange student, learning the skills necessary to become a human muse. Traditionally, only spirits and the dead attend the University, where they are educated before being reborn again into the world of the living. Megan is chosen as the ShutterBox, the metaphorical aperture through which the light and guidance of the living shines upon this humanist afterlife. When Megan slips from our world into Merridiah she becomes entangled with two angel brothers; Damien Crandall who lost his conscience and Adrien Crandall who lost his sense of responsibility. Damien asks Megan to find his brother in the Mindfields, but Adrien wants nothing more than to run with his herd of satyrs as far from his heartless brother as possible. Welcome to M.U.S.E..
